The fate of Ulverston's library
Apart from the books, libraries have been vaccine centres, warm hubs, places you might sort your life admin or spend time with friends.
But a BBC investigation has found councils have stopped running more than 180 libraries in the past seven years.
In Cumbria, at least 10 have closed and many more have had their hours cut.
BBC Radio Cumbria's Jennie Dennett reports from Ulverston, where the fate of its library will be decided next week.
