Wes Craven: Gremlins director pays tribute

Wes Craven was the "last guy you'd look at and think 'he makes horror films'", says horror director, and the man behind the film 'Gremlins', Joe Dante.

Speaking to 5 live Breakfast, Dante described Craven as a "warm, professorial" man, who had "great" relationships with his actors.

Despite his prevalence within the horror genre, Dante said Craven "yearned to break out of his mould", and on the back of his successful 'Scream' films, was given the chance to direct Meryl Streep in 'Music of the Heart'.

American horror film director Wes Craven, creator of the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, has died aged 76.
