Lake Rankul
The area round Lake Rankul is virtually a desert. Water-loving primulas grow near the lake and streams, but elsewhere at this high altitude it is a harsh environment for plants. Those that live here have adapted to cold temperatures at night, hot temperatures during the day and strong, dry winds. Most plants grow low and flat - as close to the ground as possible - to get shelter.
