Restoration Nation

In episode four of Outliers, machines, vehicles and even a whole district, are given a new lease of life with powerful stories of restoration. We travel to Moscow and St Petersburg where enthusiasts have restored authentic Soviet arcade games. The technology is basic, and infused with Cold War dogma, but the crowds keep coming - some to glimpse the past, others to indulge in nostalgia. In Japan's capital city of Tokyo, Bosozuku car and bike enthusiasts defy the conservatism of their culture by customising their prized possessions and recreating a lost era of rebellion. And in Beirut, Lebanon, we meet street graffiti artists who pick up where international culture has left off, to restore pride to one of the city's toughest neighbourhoods.
