As the United Nations meet in New York to plan how to deliver the best global healthcare, Dr Ayan Panja and Claudia Hammond assess the impact of the outgoing Millennium Development Goals - including how well countries have fared in cutting maternal and child deaths.
They also look forward to the new Sustainable Development Goals. Another Sustainable Goal is health and wellbeing for all ages. This philosophy is evident at the American Senior Games where athletes have an average age of 68, but with an average "fitness age" of just 43.
