Detling 10
Two parent-and-daughter duos dash with their cash around a bustling antiques fair in Kent, searching for collectibles to sell at auction.
While the teams get into the rhythm of their shopping, host Danny Sebastian indulges one of his passions at an exhibition in London. The Music Is Black: A British Story celebrates 125 years of the influence of black music on culture and communities. At the V&A East Museum, Danny tours the exhibition with curator Jacqueline Springer, looking at a vinyl record with the words ‘Race Records’ on the sleeve, a label designed to segregate black music from white artists. There’s a piano belonging to the first black artist to have a UK number one single, Winifred Attwell, engraved with the names of her fans, a dress worn by Dame Shirley Bassey at the 2013 Academy Awards and a Banksy-designed vest worn by Stormzy at Glastonbury in 2019.
Hoping to turn their items into auction hits are dad and daughter Erike and Melissa, and mum and daughter Angela and Katie. With hundreds of stalls to choose from, the teams go in search of profitable antiques with their experts Irita Marriott and Jonathan Pratt.
While the red team sizes up a vintage measuring tape, the blues check out a crackle-glazed pig sculpture. Then it’s off to auction in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire, to try to sell their buys to the highest bidders.
