St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield in London
Bells on Sunday comes from St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield in London.
Bells on Sunday comes from St Bartholomew the Great, Smithfield in London. The church was originally founded in 1123 as an Augustinian Priory.
It has an early 17th century brick tower in which there are five bells all of which were cast by Thomas Bullisdon around 1510. They are the only surviving pre-reformation ring of five or more bells by a single founder. The tenor bell weighs five and a half hundredweight and tuned to the note of B. We hear them ringing Grandsire Doubles.
