William Byrd: Great Service - Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis

Sara Mohr-Pietsch explores the musical landscape surrounding one of William Byrd's most celebrated works, his Great Service. Although a devoted Catholic, the settings of the Great Service are intended to mark Anglican liturgy at great state occasions. Sarah focuses on the Magnificat, the hymn of praise by Mary, and the Nunc Dimittis, aged Simeon's recognition of the infant Jesus as the coming Saviour.
