Ardingly 25
The teams have to take shelter at Ardingly antiques fair when the heavens open, but will there be pennies from heaven for one team at the auction?
Rewind to the 1980s and 90s, when we captured media on VHS tapes, floppy disks and cassettes. Today, it’s all in the cloud, but artist Nick Gentry uses these bits of retro tech to create striking portraits.
Composing themselves for a win are two teams of antiques hunters, guided by their experts Jonathan Pratt and Kate Bliss. In blue are married couple Alessandro and Gordon, who are targeting a Gordon gavel. Up against them are mum and daughter Sue and Michelle, who are ready and raring to go. Californian Sue isn’t keen on the wet weather, but that doesn’t dampen her enthusiasm for a Jasperware cheese dish at one stall. Using his loupe, Jonathan spots a few nibbles to the base, which he thinks could grate at auction! Meanwhile, Alessandro has come prepared with his own loupe, spotting hallmarks on silver spoons at another stall.
In Buckinghamshire, Charlie Ross asks auctioneer Hugo Lemon which team he’s backing, before the bids go live and we find out who today’s winner is!
