Music, chat and Meera Syal

Mark and Stuart present a feast of great music, plus comedian, writer and actor Meera Syal shares her ‘First, Last and Everything' and chats about her new memoir.

Mark Radcliffe and Stuart Maconie present a feast of great music and chat for weekend breakfast.

Today, they are joined by comedian, writer and actor Dame Meera Syal. Meera shares her ‘First, Last and Everything’ - that’s her first record, the most recent one she's enjoyed and the record that means ‘everything’ to her. She also reflects on her career and talks about her new memoir.

Meera came to prominence in the 1990s in BBC TV comedy sketch show 'Goodness Gracious Me' and, later, TV comedy 'The Kumars at No. 42.' She has written three novels as well as screenplays and, last year, was given a damehood in the King's New Year Honours. Dame Meera tells Mark and Stuart more about her life and career and shares some of her favourite music.

Also on the show... long-running feature The Chain, which gives listeners the chance to pick a track that links in some way to the last. The list now contains over 8,700 songs.

With a selection of music old and new to get the weekend started.

Produced in Salford by Audio Always for BBC Radio 6 Music.
