Sounds Of The 80s Wham! Special
Ahead of the iPlayer premiere of 'Wham! 10 Days In China' and 40 years on since their final concert at Wembley, a whole Whamtastic hour - with guest, author Sathnam Sanghera.
It's 40 years this summer since George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley went their separate ways after one final concert at Wembley - however, their music attracts new generations of fans to this day, not least every December when 'Last Christmas' often finds itself at the top of the tree on the UK's festive singles chart.
Wham! conquered the world in four short years - and in 1985, that world also included China, where they became the very first Western pop group to perform live. A documentary of that extraordinary time, 'Wham! 10 Days In China', arrives on BBC Two and iPlayer later this month.
In this special hour of Sounds Of The 80s, Gary Davies celebrates the pop phenomenon that just keeps on popping - with wall-to-wall Wham! tunes, listener memories, a Wham! Mastermix and author Sathnam Sanghera choosing his Top 3 Wham! tracks - Sathnam's latest book 'Tonight The Music Seems So Loud' explores the genius and the legacy of George Michael and is available now.
Sounds Of The 80s - 'If You Were There', you'd know... and if you weren't, pay attention!
