Scriabin's 2nd Symphony from the BBC Proms

Elizabeth Alker introduces highlights from the Proms, including music by Scriabin, chamber performances from this year's Ryedale Festival and Baroque music from Fribourg.

Elizabeth Alker introduces a week of highlights from the BBC Proms, featuring some of the festival's most memorable performances. The BBC Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of acclaimed conductor Paavo Järvi, is joined by internationally celebrated violinist Leonidas Kavakos for a powerful programme including Tchaikovsky's much-loved Violin Concerto alongside Scriabin's richly expressive 2nd Symphony.

There is also chamber music from this year's Ryedale Festival from widespread venues across rural Yorkshire as BBC New Generation Artists join forces in an exceptional late-Romantic collaboration; plus highlights from the International Sacred Music Festival in Fribourg featuring music by the 18th-century Venetian composer Galuppi.
