Bedfordshire

Episode 4 of 5

Cook Wiz Clift joins garden writer, Kathy Brown for a colourful lunch of edible flowers in Bedfordshire. From 2003.

Stuffed red peppers with sweet cicely, wildflower salad and rose petal sponge cake are on the next menu.

Kathy Brown is Britain's finest writer on edible flowers, exploring their uses through history and across cultures - from the candied flowers of Restoration England to the marigolds and orange blossom of ancient Chinese cuisine.

Her stunning Bedfordshire garden reflects her literary interests.

The cottage garden, the formal French garden with its rose arbours and her wildflower meadow are all dotted with edible delights that form the base for the salad, cordial and dessert recipes which she creates for her books.

Wiz Clift joins Kathy for some lessons in the art of cooking with flowers and some hints and tips on combining their blousy colours and subtle flavours.
