Wagner's Siegfried

The third instalment of Barrie Kosky's Royal Opera House Ring Cycle, starring Andreas Schager as the hero who knows no fear. Antonio Pappano conducts a stellar cast.

The third instalment of Barrie Kosky's Royal Opera House Ring Cycle, conducted by Antonio Pappano.

Our hero Siegfried has been raised by the dwarf Mime, whose ulterior motive is to get him to reforge his father's sword, slay the dragon Fafner and steal the cursed ring. Siegfried knows no fear and isn't fazed by anything, until he meets the sleeping Brünnhilde and experiences love for the first time. Superstar heldentenor Andreas Schager sings Siegfried, with Elisabet Strid as Brünnhilde and Christopher Maltman as The Wanderer who foresees the end of the Gods through Siegfried's power.

Recorded on 31st March at the Royal Ballet and Opera. Tom Service presents and is joined in the box by writer and cultural historian Flora Willson.
