Hannah French visits trumpeter Crispian Steele-Perkins to explore the vast differences in musical pitch which had an impact on music-making through the centuries.

Crispian explains how the trumpet evolved to cope with these differences, and why we eventually settled on the now fully-accepted A=440.

We'll hear some of Crispian's recordings, and others, including pieces by Lully, Vivaldi, Purcell, Handel and Bach.
