Vivario to Corte

Michael boards one of Europe’s most dramatic railways, which winds through Corsica’s breathtaking mountainous landscapes.

Michael Portillo’s Mediterranean railway adventure reaches its finale in Corsica as he boards one of Europe’s most dramatic railways, which winds through the island’s breathtaking landscapes. Braving the heights, he takes a close-up look at the Pont du Vecchio, a spectacular viaduct along the route.

In a forest of ancient chestnut trees, Michael discovers how this humble fruit is turned into an unexpected foodstuff which has sustained Corsicans for centuries. Michael learns how a by-product from the hives of the aggressive Corsican black bee is being used to create a new wonder product.

His journey culminates in the stunning mountain town of Corte, where he uncovers an astonishing piece of British history and comes face to face with the resilient spirit of the Corsican people.
