Bridgend
In Bridgend, Anum and Betti race to turn charity shop finds into profit, risking big on designer items, bold upcycles and a high-stakes live-streamed auction.
Joanna Page heads to Bridgend as the show brings its charity shop challenge to south Wales. With just 60 minutes on the clock and £100 each, best friends Anum and Betti go head-to-head to see who can turn second-hand bargains into the biggest profit for charity.
Paired with expert thrifters Pete and Lola, the race begins across Bridgend’s high street, where hidden gems lurk among the rails and shelves. Anum is drawn to vintage bric-a-brac and collectibles, snapping up teapots, crockery and curios, while Betti focuses on fashion, spotting bold fabrics, statement pieces and high-end labels.
But not every bargain is what it seems. Early excitement over a Burberry outfit raises questions about authenticity, while a pair of striking Christian Louboutin trainers presents a serious dilemma – a potential goldmine or a costly mistake. With the clock ticking and budgets shrinking, both teams must decide how much risk they are willing to take.
Once the shopping frenzy ends, attention turns to transformation. Each contestant chooses one item to be upcycled by expert makers. Betti’s nursery curtains are reworked into a stylish wrap dress, while Anum’s plain wooden jewellery box is transformed into a vibrant, hand-painted statement piece, proving that creativity can dramatically boost value.
Then comes the ultimate test: the live-streamed auction. Nerves are jangling as Anum and Betti step into the spotlight, pitching their items to a live online audience. As bids rise and fall in real time, confidence and charm become just as important as the items themselves. Authenticity checks deliver last-minute twists, and a risky gamble could either decide the winner or wipe out a chunk of their budget.
By the end of a dramatic auction, the profits are counted, surprises are revealed, and one contestant emerges ahead. But the real winner is charity, with all proceeds donated to the contestants’ chosen causes.
Packed with jeopardy, big decisions and satisfying transformations, the visit to Bridgend is a lively, feel-good episode that celebrates second-hand style, creative thinking and the thrill of finding hidden value where others might not look.
