Joe Marler sits down with Prince Harry to dicuss his real hair colour, Love Island and The Invictus Games
Joe Marler Will See You Now sees former Harlequins and England rugby union player Joe Marler adopt the role of a pseudo psychologist with one mission: getting into the mind of a celebrity. After a brief series break, Dr. Marler is back with a bang!
Recently, Joe had Prince Harry in his hotseat, telling all about his methods of dealing with trauma, the genesis of the Invictus Games, and delivering an impromptu performance of the Chuckle Brothers theme song with ‘Doctor’ Marler and his research assistant, Jake.

Harry is a self proclaimed rugby fan, but not a Joe Marler fan. Claiming that he’s “seen more videos of [Joe] eating cake than scoring tries.”
People think I’m ginger, but I’m more of a sunset auburn.Prince Harry on the true colour of his hair
Star sign? “Virgo.”
Occupation? “Full time dad, British Army veteran, Prince of England, Duke. Founder of the Invictus Games.”
Most famous person in his contacts? “Dylan Hartley or James Haskell.”
Harry’s favourite “trashy” TV show? “Love Island.”
What do people most often get wrong about him? “People think I’m ginger, but I’m more of a sunset auburn.”
Would he rather swap lives with Harry Styles, Harry Kane, or Harry Potter? “Kane. On a winning day.”
Does he consent to being analysed by someone who’s not a real doctor? “In this context, yes.”
How does he deal with trauma and move forward from it? “Any form of exercise is great, especially when you’re depressed”
He and Joe bond over the way they learn lessons from their children. “Kids remind you not to take yourself too seriously. The resilience of kids is amazing and the way that they view life is so incredibly refreshing, and if a day is hard, one thing I will do is always squeeze my kids that extra bit tighter.”
Television presenter and Invictus Games medallist JJ Chalmers later joins their chat, and reveals how he and Harry first met. “I met [Harry] next to a swimming pool, about eight months before the Invictus Games was a thing, and he sort of pitched the idea of what this was going to be […] long story short Invictus Games has obviously grown and got well out of hand, and he’s just never been able to get rid of me as a result.”
What’s Harry like on a big night out? “Whenever we have big sessions, [Harry’s] always on [his] best behaviour. A lot of the time when we’re out it’s like an Invictus Gala, and we’re in the corner, the lads, because you know, you get a bunch of veterans together, and he’s sometimes like a parent really.”
What is the significance of holding the Invictus Games in Birmingham? JJ Chalmers: “For those that were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, we all got flown into Birmingham Airport, and you woke up in either Selly Oak, the military hospital, or the Queen Elizabeth Birmingham, and that begins your recovery. [...] What this city means to the armed forces, but to the wounded, injured and sick of our generation, is just unquantifiable. I’ve always loved this place, I’ll always know that I owe it my life, so to come back and have a different experience of it is amazing.”
Harry: “There’s a lot of reconnections happening as well, with the clinicians that have saved these guys’ lives and put them back together again. [...] It means a lot, there’s a lot of heart and emotion to the reason why Birmingham is hosting the next games.”
What is the message of the Invictus Games? JJ Chalmers: “It’s not just for our community, this isn’t just about the armed forces, this isn’t just about having a disability. Anyone can learn from our mates, anyone who’s going through something in life can look in and go ‘right, I can live. I can learn through their lived experience.”
Harry: “From my experience, and what I see in all these guys, resilience is in every single one of us, and there is a moment in life where either you’re blown up, or you lose someone close to you, where you end up digging deep, and how you choose to use what’s happened to you, that’s how much resilience you end up getting.”
