 | Press ReleasesExpanded business role for Declan Curry on BBC News |
Today (Monday 7 January) sees the start of a newly expanded business role for BBC presenter and economics and business reporter Declan Curry. Formerly reporting just for BBC Breakfast, Declan's new role sees him covering up-to-the minute news and developments from the business world for BBC News – both on screen and online – every weekday morning. Declan continues to begin the day presenting on BBC Breakfast but will now carry on reporting throughout the morning on BBC News 24 and for the One O'clock News at lunchtime. The extended times allow Declan to get the inside track on the day's trading as it happens – following up tip-offs and story ideas generated by the business community and reporting back to viewers on breaking stories as they unfold. Declan Curry said: "Morning is when business happens – when major announcements are made, when news breaks and when the big names speak out. "I'll be capturing all the important twists and turns – using BBC News 24, the BBC News website and social networking to keep our audiences right up-to-date. "And I want them to join in the dialogue too – so they can tell me when they want more detail or explanation, and if they think I've got it wrong." Peter Horrocks, Head of the BBC's Multimedia Newsroom, said: "Declan is a hugely popular and respected business presenter. Extending his sharp and entertaining work across two BBC channels and the web will provide a valuable enhancement to our growing business audience." Viewers can now keep up with the very latest business and stock market news all morning – whether watching TV at home or watching online while working at their desks via the BBC News 24 streaming service. Notes to Editors BBC News 24 has an average weekly reach of 6.6 million viewers, compared to Sky News with a weekly reach of 4.25 million. The BBC News website is the UK's most popular news website, now serving over 1 billion pages per month. It has an average reach of just under 14 million users in the UK and abroad. NL |
