Clive Edwards appointed Executive Editor and Commissioning Editor for TV Current Affairs

Clive Edwards has been appointed to the new position of Executive Editor and Commissioning Editor for TV Current Affairs.

Clive will take up the role at the end of the year, as Karen O'Connor, formerly acting Head of Current Affairs, moves to become the New Head of London Factual.

Helen Boaden, BBC Director of News, said: "I'm delighted that a journalist of such experience and ability as Clive Edwards will be leading Television Current Affairs. His rock solid journalistic credentials, creative flair and commitment to serving all audiences will continue the very good work of the department."

Stephen Mitchell, BBC Head of Radio News, said: "Clive Edwards is currently the Editor of The Money Programme, and a former deputy editor of Panorama, so he has a terrific track record in handling high profile, Current Affairs programmes, which are subject to the most rigorous scrutiny.

"He also recently demonstrated his high level of creativity as Executive Producer of the groundbreaking Andrew Marr series on Modern Britain for BBC Two. I know he will help us take TV Current Affairs through the major changes they are about to undergo, and his appointment demonstrates the commitment of both BBC News and BBC Vision to the long term prosperity of Current Affairs."

Clive Edwards said: "I am very excited to be given the opportunity to lead Current Affairs which produces so many outstanding programmes. I look forward to working with both the in-house team and the independents to make the output even stronger in the future. I've had a fantastic time at The Money Programme over the past six years and I wish them all the very best."

Clive Edwards joined the BBC in 1993 as a producer on Panorama, where he was deputy editor from 1995 to 2001.

Prior to joining the BBC he was a producer on Thames Television's This Week.
