Harrogate & District JFL

Weemes World

IIkley 2-2 Pannal Sport Panthers

Harrogate & District Junior League U15 B, 2nd April 2006

It may not have been a brilliant result but this otherwise proved to be a equal tie of both teams playing out their seasons.

It was IIkley's last match of the season and they were keen to make a good impression on their home fans after what had been a terrible season. Panthers still have matches to play of course and this was another.

The game got off to a slow start it must be said, the control of the ball was lacklustre and the quality of the passing was poor to say the least. Finally that man, Weemes got on the scoresheet yet again to make it 1-0. Jinky continued his form from last Friday where he scored two goals for Harrogate Grammar Year 10's Vs Year 11's.

IIkley pressed and pushed on for the equaliser. Their goal was slightly lucky and Robertson and Shiel were at fault for it. Bad communication led to the goal and once again Panthers were back to square one.

The second half saw the introduction of Birch for the injured Tuplin on the right wing. Positivey was required in this second half to get the goal.

Seconds into the start of the half and Weemes had scored again! A terrible cock-up in the IIkley defence saw Weemes stroke the ball into the empty net. It was 2-1 and Jinky was flying.

Weemes made it look easy. At one point he dribbled round all the players while taking his hat off. It was a comical moment but otherwise the player was easily a carbon copy of Jimmy Johnstone.

IIkley had chances though, they missed plenty and they finally got their equaliser. However IIkley's Bunn was caught swearing and arguing with the Referee and so was subbed off by his angry manager.

More drama was to come as the rain came on. With the ball easily out in the penalty area, Rice was elbowed or pushed deliberatly by the IIkley Goalkeeper. It should have been a clear penalty, strangely Ilkley seemed to argue more about this decision than the Panthers did.

Robinson had a good shot from outside the penalty box and so the ball proceeded to hit two cars in comical fashion!

The chances were still there though and Rice almost won it right at the end. Sadly, his shot hit the side-netting.

Final Score: 2-2, a good attempt for the Panthers played out in very end of season style. Next match is against Old Modernians on Friday!! who are currently fighting for the champion spot with Scholes.
