Europe could be getting its first purpose-built women's football stadium.

Currently teams in the Women's Super League often use men's stadiums or other facilities to play in.

But for Brighton and Hove Albion, a new women's stadium could be opening its doors for the 2030-31 season.

The club says the new stadium will provide "a permanent home and identity for the women's team" and hopes it will increase the number of long-term fans.

The stadium is expected to cost around £75-80million to build.

The plans show it'll have a minimum capacity of 10,000 supporters and will be built next to the Amex Stadium - home to the men's team.

It's hoped the new stadium - with changing rooms, pitch standards and recovery spaces - will "support elite female players" but also make the match day experience better for fans too.

There will be breastfeeding rooms, baby changing areas and buggy parks for prams.

Brighton says they want it to be "especially welcoming for families and first-time attendees".

With work under way on a planning application, the club hope to officially open the stadium for the start of the 2030-31 season.

"The prospect of a bespoke stadium, built exclusively for women's players, staff and supporters, is incredibly exciting," said the club's managing director of women's and girls' football, Zoe Johnson.
