Tidworth-based troops hold day for families

More than 300 personnel from the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment have taken part in a day for family and friends ahead of their deployment to Afghanistan.

A spokesman for the regiment said about 2,200 people had attended the event at Aliwal Barracks, Tidworth.

It included a parade and medal presentations, Viking tanks, Mastiff armoured vehicles and a parachute display team.

Three squadrons are due to deploy with 16 Air Assault Brigade in September.
