"I’m nervous to say the very least; it goes without saying that the audience is going to be a lot larger. It's one thing playing out to a few people in the Union bar and another to the whole nation. But its going to be really good fun, Dan - my co-host - and I are really looking forward to putting out a great show." You've also been spending the week on work experience with Colin Murray too. How's that going?"Colin and his team, Jimmy and Deidre, are great. They've made me feel right at home. Admittedly, I was a little star struck initially. I mean, the two Annies of Radio 1 - Nightingale and Mac - are casually chatting on the other side of the desk from me right now, but everyone is so friendly and easy going. | "I have to take a step back and think of how big an achievement the award was. "They've kept me busy too; I haven't just been making tea all day! So far, I've been checking the songs to be played for errors and swearing, researching artists and sitting in on the pluggers’ meetings." Who are your DJ heroes?"I think my teen years were epitomised by listening to Steve Lamaq and the Evening Session on Radio 1. So I'd definitely have to say he was one of my heroes. Also Annie Nightingale, for the fact that someone can be involved in the industry so long and have made such a massive transformation from the days of The Old Grey Whistle Test to her late night breaks show." "Sometimes I have to take a step back and think of how big an achievement the award was. It’s very easy in radio to not be aware of what’s outside of the studio. The competition was really stiff and to have beaten the guys I was up against in an achievement in itself. If anything, winning the award has spurred me on to do better next year." What's your secret to good DJing?"Being aware of your audience. Know who they are and what they are expecting from the radio. I like to try and sound as if I could just be sitting on a seat next to my audience in the pub or having a chat with them in their bedroom. "However, presenters should be wary that there is a fine line between having that intimate feel and the perils of in-jokes and an awful show."
