Erica Hurst
Tomboy: Erica

The Kearsley Castaway

She's 22, from Bolton and, until recently, a lap dancer in a strip club. But four weeks after getting wed, Erica Hurst is following in Fogle's footsteps in a new series of the BBC island survival show. Meet the Kearsley Castaway:

Erica Hurst

  • Age: 22
  • From: Bolton
  • Occupation: Former lap dancer
  • Star sign: Aries
  • Motto: 'F**k it! You only live once!"

Having ten pound notes shoved in your G-string may seem a long way from building a community on a remote island. And believe me, Great Barrier Island is a long way from the nearest lap dancing club.

So what's Erica doing on Castaway? How will she get on with her fellow Man and Girl Fridays? And how much is it about the F-word.... FAME?

Hunter gatherer?

The 22-year-old from Kearsley is hoping the show will help her launch her career as an actress. Hmm. On the plus side, she's positive and hard-working, and describes herself as loud and the life and soul. So the beach parties will be rocking.

But what about survival? Erica 'abhors animal cruelty.' So what are the chances of her bringing a wild pig on a stick back to camp? Quite.

On the plus side, Erica lists snowboarding and Thai boxing amongst her hobbies. Not sure how piste practice she'll get but arguing over whose turn it is to do the washing-up could be a bad move.

Erica says will always try anything once – but not without her mascara. Oh dear. And she absolutely hates spiders. (Unless they've got mascara on. And then they're kinda cute.)

Erica: Q & A

Before she left for the remote Great Barrier Island, Erica answered a few questions for the BBC:

Why Castaway?

"It is the type of situation I have always dreamed to be in, where I could see what my full potential is."

How do you think people see you?

"As a complete nutter! It's something I am very proud of."

What are you scared of?

"Spiders, spiders, spiders. I absolutely hate spiders."

What do you live for?

"Fun, fun and more fun. There is no point in doing everything or anything if you don't have fun."

If you could be anyone, who would you be?

"Bill Gates - he may be ugly, but think what you could do with his billions."

What's your special skill?

"I have a great ability to remember things which is surprising because I don't eat fish."

What's your best party trick?

"I can make my eyes move independently of each other. Pretty disgusting really."

Tell us something about yourself that few people know.

"I hate chicken! My mum force-fed it to me as a child so now I never eat it out of choice."

What's your most surprising feature?

"My burps. It's surprising how something so loud can come out of something so small."

What do you think you can contribute on the island?

"Laughter. Not practical, I know, but definitely a necessity."

Castaway launches on BBC One this Friday March 9th at 9pm, and BBC Three at 10pm. You can watch it weekly on BBC One and BBC Three from this Sunday, March 11th.
