Passer By

Joe (James Nesbitt)

Have you ever ignored someone in distress because you didn't want to get involved?

In Passer By James Nesbitt plays radiographer Joe Keyes. Late one night he is travelling home by train when he sees a young girl, Alice (Emily Bruni) being chatted up by two men. When the banter becomes threatening Joe is unsure whether or not to intervene.

Helen (Siobhan Finneran) and Joe (James Nesbitt)

When he reaches his station he glances at Alice who seems to be appealing for his help. Now he faces a dilemma. Should he stay on the train and get involved or get off and go home?

Joe chooses home. His actions result in terrible consequences for Alice, his wife Helen (Siobhan Finneran) and his two children - but most of all for his sense of identity.

Alice (Emily Bruni)

Writer Tony Marchant says; "A man makes a fateful decision that systematically takes apart his authority as a husband, a father and a man. It's ultimately about how hard it is to be good and do the right thing."

Once again Tony has delivered a drama that we can all identify with – what is the contract between strangers? Do you get involved or leave well alone?

Laura Mackie, Head of Drama Serials, on Tony Marchant's script

Director David Morrissey says: "Having worked with Tony and David [David Snodin, the producer] before as an actor on two very successful productions - Into The Fire and Holding On - I'm delighted to be on the other side of the camera with them for this truly exciting drama."

Ruddock (Bryan Dick)

Laura Mackie, Head of Drama Serials, says: "Tony's script is an honest and intimate portrayal of a man's inner emotions. "Once again Tony has delivered a drama that we can all identify with - what is the contract between strangers? Do you get involved or leave well alone?"
