MusicYou are in: Cornwall > Entertainment > Music > Want to Rock Fistral? ![]() Want to Rock Fistral?A new music event organised by two of the world's biggest surf and music companies will allow local acts to play and compete for a prize on Newquay's Fistral Beach. The 2009 Quiksessions are appealing for bands from all over the region to enter. As part of the Quicksilver Surf Showdown, a special competition that will be taking place on Fistral Beach during the August Bank Holiday, a battle of the bands style competition is being held for local bands. The Quiksilver Surf Showdown see's Quiksilver and Gibson searching for local bands to play live at the Gibson Tour Bus & Quiksessions Stage during the event which takes places on the local beach during the Bank Holiday weekend. As well as the privilege of playing to crowds of music lovers on the beach the best of the six selected bands will win prizes from the organisers. To accompany the local bands performing on the day, musician Ben Howard, who recently played at the Boardmasters, will also be live on stage. Ben has enjoyed increasing success following his success at the 2009 the Red Stripe Music awards, and release of his new EP 'These Waters'. Since then he has played at Glastonbury and even supported the modfather, Paul Weller. ![]() Above the Fistral Beach complex The Gibson Guitar Tour Bus will be in attendance on Fistral beach to provide a media hub and place to relax for the special guest artists and all surfers taking part in the event.
