He's best known for his comic creations in The Young Ones and Bottom, but now Adrian Edmondson is making waves in the music world with his band The Bad Shepherds. The group are coming to Falmouth. Listen to our interview...

When you think of Adrian Edmondson characters like Vyvyan from The Young Ones and Eddie from Bottom spring to mind. This was the actor who playfully hit Sir Cliff Richard over the head in the video for the song 'The Young Ones' in the '80s.

But there's plenty you might not know about the actor. He's produced music videos for a variety of acts including Squeeze and Sandie Shaw.

Now Adrian has taken his musical interest further still by creating his own band; The Bad Shepherds.

For many years Adrian Edmondson would play his guitar in the privacy of his own home. He's been an avid collector of instruments for a while, but even Adrian was surprised to wake up the morning after a Christmas party to discover he'd bought a mandolin!

However Adrian soon fell in love with its sound and decided the time had come to create his own band.

In no time at all his enthusiasm had attracted folk musicians like Maartin Allcock, Andy Dinan, and Troy Donockley - together they became The Bad Shepherds.

The group now tour the country performing punk and new wave classics on folk instruments. Adrian will be bringing the band to Falmouth's Princess Pavilion on Friday 21 August 2009.

They've recently recorded an album, 'Yan, Tyan, Tethera, Methera!' which means 'One, Two, Three, Four' in an ancient Cumbrian dialect used almost exclusively by shepherds.

Adrian himself has never been happier:

"As long as people come and see the show I could go on forever," he smiles. "It's the most fun I have ever had."
