Robyn Davies is hoping more surfers and water users will become Trust members in Cornwall. The National Trust owns some of the South West's top surfing spots. It's launched a campaign to make its work relevant to a new, much wider and younger audience. ![]() Robyn at Fistral during the Boardmasters The Surf Project, spearheaded by top surfer Robyn Davies from Porthleven will begin a new wave of involvement between the Trust and 11-26 year olds in Cornwall. As part of her new role with the Trust, Robyn will be developing volunteering opportunities, organising events and managing eco-surf lessons. The Trust says despite its image of appealing to country house lovers, it should appeal to surfers too. "The great thing about the coastline is the view looking back to the land from the sea," says Robyn. ![]() Robyn at Fistral during the Boardmasters "It still looks wild and untamed - so different from many coastlines in the world which have been over developed. "It's thanks to the National Trust and its many supporters and volunteers, that we can enjoy such an unspoilt coastal environment." The Trust's environmental campaign for clean beaches should also strike a chord with surfers. Nationwide the charity protects over 700 miles of the coastline. ![]() St Antony Head by Joe Cornish/Nat Trust "Ever since the National Trust began caring for the coastline has been an integral part of our work," explains Fiona Reynolds, the Director General of the Trust. "Being an island nation most of us have an affinity with the sea, and we hope to inspire a new generation to support and look after our precious coastline." Volunteers play a major role in helping the Trust carry out its important work. Those who get involved now through Robyn's Surf Project, will join more than 50,000 other volunteers who support the charity's work throughout the UK.
