How To Use Wav World

Basics
Wav World offers you funny sounds and voices for use on your desktop. You can assign sounds to key desktop events - like your computer starting up, shutting down, receiving an new email, etc.

How to Download a Wav
From the list of 'wavs' (short for sound waves) within each category, select a sound you want. To simply listen to it, click on the link. Your media player should pop up and play the sound. By right mouse-clicking on the link and then selecting "Save Target As..." you can download the sound to your computer. Save the file and remember where you saved it.

Assign a Sound
To change sounds and events you need to go find the Sounds window in Control Panel. Select this by going to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Sounds. You are now in the 'Sounds Properties' box. From the 'Events' list choose an event e.g. Start Windows, New Mail Notification etc. then in the 'Sound' list use the 'browse' to locate the sound you downloaded. (Remember where you saved it?) Then click OK. Your sound should now be triggered by the event.

Mac Users
For you Mac users it's a little more involved. The only event sound that can be re-assigned is the Alert Beep. To assign sounds to email, start up, shut down, etc., you will need additional event sound software on your machine. You'll have to search the web or consult your vendor on this matter.

To use a sound as your Alert Beep, it must be placed in your 'Sound folder.' This file is located in your System Folder. To install a sound there, first quit all applications. Download the wav by holding down the control key and clicking on the link. Choose the option 'Download link to disk' and save the file to the desktop.
Next, drag the sound file off the desktop to your Sound folder and choose it from the selection of wavs there as your alert beep. For more details go to the section in help called 'Changing the alert sound.'
