Jill's Skills: Nutmeg
Learn how to perform the nutmeg trick with Jill. A nutmeg is when you kick the ball through another player's legs to get past them, so it can be useful for when you're trying to get past defenders. To do it, you need to encourage the defender to lunge towards the ball, so they open their legs wider and then you can sneak the ball through.
Jill's Drills: Nutmeg
Grab two cones and place them one stride apart.
Stand three to five feet away, dribble the ball towards the cones and practise kicking the ball between them.
Focus on precision, can you kick the ball right through the middle without hitting the cones?

How many keepie uppies can you do? Learn how to master this trick with Jill! This skill is a great way to improve your control of the ball and is useful for improving your hand and eye coordination.

How to practice and perfect a keepie uppies:
Hold your football at waist height and drop it on to the floor.
Let it bounce once and gently kick it into the air, try to aim for it to bounce off your laces.
Catch the ball and repeat the trick, so you get used to the movement and improve your accuracy.
Try to perform the trick continuously, without catching it with your hands, repeatedly kick the ball with your foot.

Can you master the one-two football trick? Let Jill teach you how to do this trick, sometimes known as a give and go pass, to get past rival players and improve your reflexes when on the ball.

How to practice the one-two trick:
Grab a football and stand around 2 meters away from a flat, brick wall.
Place a single cone, or marker, around half way between you and the wall (to imitate a rival player).
Kick the ball firmly at the wall and run past the cone as soon as the ball has left your foot.
Be ready to stop the rebounding ball with your foot.

Jill shows us how to do a chip pass, which is perfect for getting the ball high over defenders to a teammate. Watch the clip to see how it's done.

This chip pass drill can help you develop muscle memory in getting your foot under the ball and achieving a consistent height.
How to practice a chip pass:
Put three cones or markers down at increasing distances (to imitate defenders).
Dribble the ball towards the cones, looking up before you are ready to chip.
Approach the ball with your foot at a slight angle and wedge your foot under the ball, so it is on your laces.
Lift the ball into the air, trying to make it land over each cone.

Awareness is an important skill to master in lots of aspects of daily life, but it is crucial when playing football! It can help you go from a technically talented player to a match-winning performer. Watch the clip to learn how Jill uses awareness in her game.

To practice this skill, keep your head up when training and be aware of which players are around you. Don't just focus on the ball at your feet, understand who you might be able to pass to, and where there is space on the pitch.
