G4 cannot be compared to Il Divo. G4 are four individuals with very different voices, yet together they complement each other perfectly. Each has a distinctive voice and they have great charisma, which makes them addictive and fascinating to watch and hear. Il Divo, whilst good at singing, lack dimension, they are what they are, no star quality or "umph" for want of a better word!! One can only hope that when G4 have had their "space" from each other and matured, they may one day reform. That day can't come quick enough!

Definitely G4, have liked them since the x-factor days and am absolutely gutted that they are splitting up. They have helped me get through some difficult times recently and without their music to keep me going I'm sure I would have done something I would have regretted. I'm just so sorry they didn't get the support from their management, perhaps if they did they would continue as a group.

I am a huge fan of G4 since their X-Factor days. Il Divo are good and very acclomplished, but I prefer G4 because they can sing live without microphones (as in their recent Cathedral tour) and acapella. I am of retirement age and G4 appeals to all ages from 8 to 88! They are wonderful and have got me through a very difficult and sad time in my life. Without their music I would have gone under. THEY ARE INCREDIBLE!

I love G4 to bits and I think had they had the promotion and support Il Divo have had both would be international groups by now.The two are not in competition,are different in ages and style..there is plenty of room for both groups and it would just be nice for Sony to see that.Because then G4 might finally get some international promo.I so hope G4 move to Sony classical in the near future-might get better support there I think. :)

What is the benefit of this question? Why turn this into a slanging match? The two groups are different in how they sound and what they sing. It is like comparing apples and pears. One is not better than the other - just different. It is a matter of taste. I prefer G4 as I find their music wonderful and the guys are very talented. I have no need to slag off Il Divo. I am sure they have a massive following as well but I am not one of them. I wish people could be civilised about this but I do blame the originator of this thread for trying to stir up ill feeling which is totally unecessary.

I was privileged to meet the guys for the very first time in December when they sang at Lincoln Cathedral and they are lovely, charming and down-to-earth and have a lot of time for their fans.
And that was after singing live for an hour without microphones, and only piano and organ accompaniment so that the true beauty of their voices could be appreciated. Could Il Divo do that? ..... they have yet to prove it!!!

Im a proud Diva and is a member of the forum that belongs to the fabulous KINGS of pop-opera master of song romance and love IL DIVO!!!! Befor IL DIVO anything that had the word opera in it I ran from. Any group that sang in the opera type style I would of rather of died then sit there and listen to it. Is it perhaps because none of them are from the UK? I love Il Divo (and to Mo, there is a beautiful baritone in the group) but have not had the pleasure of hearing G4. They're unknown outside of the UK.

Being friends is very nice, but it doesn't mean that all four friends will have great voices that work together and compliment each other. Il Divo is the cream of the crop and I never tire of hearing them. G4 I can take or leave.

Come on BBC - how about printing a message from an Il Divo fan? It's a rather one-sided debate at the moment. I don't really understand why people have to compare the two bands - there is plenty of room for both of them and their different styles. If some of you don't understand what they say, this is probably because they sing in foreign languages...is that right ? IL DIVO!!! They are so talented and they are worldwide, unlike G4. They have sold so many more albums, which does say which is prefered more. Also, Il divo reached number 2 with their new album siempre, where as G4 didnt even make the top 10. Then all opinion polls ive seen Il divo are ALWAYS favourite, and G4 dont anywhere near as many votes (GMTV POLL, held end of 2006) Im not saying im not a G4, i have all three of their albums and theire dvd, but i think its pretty obvious which of the two are favoured.

As I see below, everybody is for G4. I have to say that I listen to both groups (I have all albums from BOTH groups), and some songs from G4 are fabulous (like Circle of live, the best version I ever heard), but some of the other songs(no offence meant) definitely don't even suit their voices (like O sole mio, I've heard so many better versions of this song). Usualy I wish that Il Divo would record the songs that G4 recorded, at least canzonas. Everybody has to understand that when you listen to a certain kind of music, you expect a certain standard (if I may say so) from them. I have to say that I love listening to ID. [Edited for length]

IL DIVO are a group of highly trained and talented men. In fact they sold out every concert on their WORLD tour last year, 86 concerts. This does not included the dates the played with Barbara Striesand. The have also sold over 15 million albums to date. They also realise how important their fans are and always make time to meet them. Their fans base also speaks to all ages from the very young to the more mature.

It sounds to me as if the G4 fans are given the party line to follow as all their comments sound the same... more against Il Divo than for G4. I'm a DIVOted Il Divo fan, find them anything BUT arrogant, very very genenrous towards their fans, very approachable, individually each one is a fabulous professional singer, and as a group they sound just wonderful. They blew me away when I first heard them, and continue to amaze me with their talent. Yes, it's definitely Il Divo all the way.

There really is no contest here is there? - Il Divo of course! They may have come together through the traditional way of those horrible things called 'auditions', but atleast this ensures the group has got the best possible voices ever, & damn they all look better too ;-) & anyway I don't think it's fair to compare Il Divo to a boyband like G4 (but you're right G4 fans, atleast they were all chums first).

Il Divo is a wonderful group, and the four men are unfailingly friendly and accessible to their fans. They have great singing voices, and although they were brought together by the Simon Cowell production team, they all had flourishing solo careers beforehand. I like G4, but for romantic, spine tingling, sensational talent, I can't go past Il Divo.

Anyone who thinks Il Divo are a manufactured group needs to have a SERIOUS reality check. In case you didn't notice they are 3 classical trained singers and an extremely talented self taught singer/songwriter/producer. If Simon Cowell didn't see talent, if the record label didn't see talent, if the manager's, pr people and fans didn't see talent do you really think they would have come as far and with such varied success as they have achieved?

For a start I do not understand the comparison between G4 and ID - there is none. Everything about them is different. G4 never try to outdo each other and each ending to a song is different - whereas IDs seem to end everything by seeing who can shout louder than the other, very irritating. The group G4 came out of friendship, the IDs were born out of auditions. G4 are 2 high and 2 low voices which gives them a completely different sound to IDs who are all tenors. G4s concerts not only have beautiful music but are entertaining and inclusive of their fans, they are not in love with themselves - IDs stand in a row waiting to be adored - and usually by the same middle aged women. G4s fans range from 2 to 92 and also include male fans. Once they get you as a fan you are theres for as long as they wish to exist.

Firmaly grounded, but know how to enjoy life and music. Above all, their singing is so beautiful. They can sing live, without mime, without take 2. Il Divo just dont do it for me. They all sound similar and like they are trying to out sing each other.And they seem to think that just sining everything in Italian makes it operatic.

G4 are amazing. They are 4 young lads who were thrust into fame after coming 2nd on the X Factor 2004. They are also the nicest people you could ever meet. Down to earth and charasamatic and always have time for their fans. Even at the tours, they get the audience involved in the songs by either telling us to sing certain lines ourselves or getting a lucky member of the audience on stage to have a song sung to them. 4 very talented, extremely nice guys.
