Workshop Co-ordinator , Elaine Batten talks about the aims of the Mis-Cellaneous Drama Club. | | Co-ordinator Elaine Batten with group |
"Mis-Cellaneous was set up two years ago and started off as an idea about teaching young people to see themselves as individuals. We think it's very important that children recognise how special and unique they are. "Each school term pre-school children up to key stage 4 and 11 -16 year olds come to our workshops and have fun sharing their own individual ideas towards making a drama. "Through our creative educational activities young people are given the opportunity to get involved, improve their vocabulary and build up their confidence, in an environment that promotes learning through laughter. "The way that we teach drama is very different, it's not as structured as drama is normally taught, the children have a lot of freedom in our sessions. "However our workshops are designed in line with the Drama in Education guidelines set by the Arts Council, Ofsted and the Department for Education and Skills." David –"My grandson Callam, expressed an interest in drama and was really eager to get involved. He has really come out of himself and has enjoyed taking part in the workshops." Lesley – "Ben has been coming for about a year now, he had some friends who attended miscellaneous and they said it was really good fun. "Ben is a fairly confident boy, but he didn’t like standing up and talking infront of people. The Mis-Cellaneous Drama Club has now given him the confidence to do that." | | Ben and mom Lesley |
Sheena – "Jamal has been coming since September 2005, I signed him up so he could get help with his speech, and social skills. There has been a huge improvement in Jamal and he's learnt a lot from the whole experience." Philip - "We have two sons in the drama club. Our policies as parents are to make sure our sons are developed in as many aspects of their lives. We have already seen a positive benefit since our boys have attended the Mis–Cellaneous workshop sessions. | | Jamal and mom Sheena |
"Previously they would have shrinked away from different activities now they will stand up and present to large audiences. "Social skills are as important for our children’s long term success as their academic achievements. The most important key social skills are confidence, self presentation and being able to communicate with people." Mis-Cellaneous aims | | Mis-Cellaneous drama club |
