Check for product recalls

On Wednesday's Morning Live, consumer journalist Harry Kind talked about portable heaters to help boost the heat in your home.
If you're buying or a portable heater, stick to a reputable high street retailer or manufacturer you recognise. Products sold by unknown third-party sellers online may not have passed the same safety checks as those sold by traditional retailers.
If you're digging an old heater out of the loft or cupboard, check it over before plugging it in. Look for any damaged or frayed cables, taped repairs, cracks in the plug, meltic plastic, burn marks or other signs of overheating.
It's also worth checking whether your heater has ever been recalled. Check if your heater has been called on the GOV UK website., external
When using your heater, make sure to plug it directly into a wall socket rather than an extension lead. Keep it at least one metre away from curtains, furniture and anything else that could catch fire.
