How to keep yourself secure from an unexpected call
The main one is don't answer security questions on an inbound call.
Instead, hang up and call the company back using the official number on your bill or website. This avoids the risk of impersonation and bypasses the more outdated call‑centre authentication systems.
If you suspect it was a scam report it to Report Fraud. You can do this by calling 0300 123 2040 or visiting the Report Fraud website at Report Fraud, external for England, Wales and NI. For Scotland report to Police Scotland on 101.
