Airport staff stage walkout
Picket line at Manchester Airport
It is the latest in a series of stoppages
Workers at Manchester Airport have staged a two-hour strike in a long-running dispute over jobs.

The action took place between 1300 and 1500 BST on Saturday.

The action by members of the Transport and General Workers Union is over planned cuts in security jobs.

The workers will also walk out for two hours on 30 July and 3 August.

Further stoppages

After Saturday's strike, an airport spokeswoman said: "Today passed by and there was no effect on passengers."

Dave McCall, the TGWU regional secretary said: "We will keep saying that you cannot cut corners for safety and security, but the airport continually flies in the face of reason."

The union says security staff will be involved in the next stoppages.

Mr McCall said: "The case for a properly-resourced, well-trained and well-motivated workforce in a modern airport has been made by us, and we will continue to make that case even if it means taking strike action."

Airport management has said proposals put forward by the union are not constructive.
